Bamboo dinghy: harvest and prep

It’s the eye of the tiger. It’s the thrill of the fight!

Carrying the bamboo home. The long pieces are 8 feet. I later reversed this so the bamboo rested on my shoulder.

Splitting the long pieces.

Soaking. Probably unnecessary, but I decided to do it to prevent any breakage.

About an hour NW of DC in Maryland. I get the bamboo from a state park near my house. The park follows a creek all the way down to the Potomac, so it’s pretty extensive.
