Completed boots & an era ends

These are my completed boots, essentially. After wearing them I want to change a few things but nothing substantial. These boots mark the end of my use of lasts … at least until lasts suit my desires. I think heels are wasteful and unnecessary for the most part. I already skipped the use of shanks and some of the more conventional things in shoes that I don’t think really serve a purpose. I want to head back to simpler, moccasin-like shoes that use less material and are simpler for me to create.

It looks like about the same concept. Shanks in regular shoes start under the heel and down to the ball of the feet. They just support that section but I mostly don’t agree with the practice.

That’s essentially where I’m headed also, my inspiration drawn from the welted moccasins of the plains natives which look pretty similar to the viking shoes. I thought of it more as a casual shoe, so a dress shoe would be interesting to see 🙂
